"To finish first, you must first finish" - Rick Mears
By far the best decision I made at Northwestern was joining Northwestern Formula Racing my freshman year. Every year we design, build and race a small open wheel racecar in the Formula SAE series.
I served as chassis lead for two years, where I designed and manufactured a everything from a spaceframe chassis to a full aerodynamics package to a steering system. But seeing as there is no I in team, I also managed the chassis subteam to complete projects far too intense for a single student. Over two years I more than doubled the size of my subteam, and trained new members who are leading Northwestern Formula Racing today.
Most importantly, after leading the team for two years, we started finishing races. In 2016 we entered two competitions, and finished both of them, closing out the season in 15th place out 70 teams at FSAE Lincoln.
